Have questions about the Kente Registry? We are here to help.

Whether you are a weaver considering registration, a researcher seeking access to our resources, or a collector with questions about authenticity, we welcome your message.

Searching, submitting, and verifying are always free. There is no account fee, paywall, or membership tier, so there is no need to write to us to ask about cost.

Only handwoven Kente can be registered or authenticated. Cloth must be hand-woven in strips on a traditional treadle loom. Machine-made and digitally printed fabric is not eligible, regardless of appearance.

Who Should Write

For Weavers

If you are a master weaver, start with the registration form — that is where Master Weaver profiles, designs, and cloths are submitted. See How To Register Kente for what each pathway involves, and use the form below if you have questions before you register.

For Researchers

Academic and cultural researchers are welcome to reach out for collaboration opportunities and access to our resources.

Response Time

We reply to enquiries within 2 to 3 business days — note that submission review follows a separate timeline. For urgent matters, please indicate this in your message.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I verify if my Kente cloth is authentic?

Visit our Verify Authenticity page, where we explain the registry identifier system and how to check a cloth against its registry record.

My cloth came back “Not Found” — does that mean it is fake?

Not necessarily. The weaver may not be registered yet, the cloth may predate the Registry, or the identifier may have been mistyped. Try a manual search by weaver or community, then write to us and we will help investigate. More in our FAQ.

I am a Kente weaver. How do I register with the Registry?

See our How To Register Kente page for the two pathways open now, Design and Master Weaver Profile. A third pathway, Cloth Authentication, is planned for a future phase and is not yet open for submission.

Does the Registry buy, sell, or value cloth?

No to all three. We do not sell cloth and we do not broker sales, and a Registry number is a record of what we examined and published — not an appraisal, a guarantee of value, or a tradable asset. Where we can, we connect enquiries to registered weavers and communities. More in our FAQ.

Can I use Kente Registry materials for educational purposes?

Yes, with attribution. Please contact us to discuss specific use cases, particularly for publication or institutional teaching.
