Education and profession

His grounding is in education. He took a Bachelor of Education in Social Sciences at the University of Cape Coast, and later returned to the University to complete a Master of Business Administration in Accounting.

He holds the ACCA (UK) and CPA Australia professional designations, with several years’ experience in finance, financial reporting and public sector auditing. His professional work covers final accounts, financial audit and internal audit, together with data analysis and reporting systems. He is now resident in Australia.

An auditor’s habits, applied to heritage

That combination matters here more than it might first appear. A register of Kente weavers and cloths is, at bottom, a body of records that other people are asked to trust. The habits of an auditor apply directly: establish the basis of a claim, record it, and be able to show it again later.

Every Registry record carries a permanent identifier and a stated verification status. Mr Adjei brings an instinct for the evidence and traceability that give both their meaning.

His background in teaching and the social sciences adds a further strength. He understands that a record serves the public only when it can be clearly explained to them.

Stewardship and accountability

He also brings the financial stewardship a company limited by guarantee requires. The Registry is accountable to its members and, in time, to regulators and supporters. That accountability is carried in properly kept books, clear reporting and honest internal review, not in good intentions.

His experience in public sector audit, where accountability to the public is the whole point, suits that role well.

On the board

As a Director, Mr Adjei contributes professional rigour in accounting and assurance, practical skill with data, and a steady insistence that what the Registry publishes can withstand scrutiny.
